Wasiu Williams, the CEO’s Driver, clocked ten years in the services of BOG within the quarter. He reflects on how he has fared in BOG in the last ten years. Excerpts:
I joined Bell Oil and Gas (BOG) ten years ago and in the course of the last ten years, BOG has evolved from what it used to be to become a very big organization. This has helped me evolve as a person as well.
One of my accomplishments in BOG is the training I attended on defensive driving. This training afforded me the opportunity to better understand the nitty-gritty of driving. It provided me a unique opportunity to gain new insights on how to ensure safety and successfully navigate the everyday bustling and rustling associated with Lagos roads. In other words, I have become a better driver following this training.
Again, BOG’s emphasis on appropriate code of conduct for all staff has positively impacted me. I have become better in my personal engagements. This reflects in the way I have carried on with my different activities both in the office and in my personal space.
Being the driver of the CEO of BOG has also helped in building my self-confidence, inter-personal skills and relationship management capabilities. I can conveniently interact with different kinds of people regardless of their social status.
BOG has afforded me the opportunity to work in a well-structured environment. I have adjusted to working effectively in a corporate environment, and this is good for my career. I have also met different kinds of people in the course of working with BOG. Overall, I have become a better person.
I would like to specifically appreciate Dr. Kayode Thomas, the CEO of BOG, for his fatherly support at critical times in the course of my work and even in my personal life. He is indeed a rare gem. I can not but mention his contributions to the success of my wedding 2 years ago, and the very valuable gifts he has given to me in the course of working with him.
BOG is one big, united family as it is not just work that connects people. The Management is not only concerned about work; they are also concerned about employees’ families. My prayer for this company is that it will continue to grow to greater heights and that what has been experienced so far will only the beginning of greater things to come.
