Silas Itulua is BOG Person of Q1 2024
Silas Itulua joined BOG in September 2021 as the pioneer Team Lead for BOG’s world-class Valve Manufacturing and Service Plant located at the Lekki Free Zone, Lagos. He is responsible for supervising the valve team and implementing processes and budgets required to enable the company profitably deliver quality valve assembly and repairs services to clients.
Silas distinctly met the criteria for the BOG person. He demonstrated commitment to BOG, a clear understanding of our goals, and a commitment to excellence as he piloted the activities of the Valves Assembly Plant. His commitment to delivering the desired results is helping us earn financial strength. He did all within his means in the prevailing circumstances to ensure that BOG’s goals and objectives are met, while conducting business in a professional, moral and ethical manner and sound integrity.
As a leader, Silas influenced his team members by example, to deliver results even when they had to work at weekends. Silas dealt with members of his team with respect. He also showed respect to the customers and to BOG management and leadership. In the absence of a staff bus for the FZE team, he came up with the idea of picking members of staff from their closest junctions to work and returning the staff to the junction at the close of work daily- demonstrating a willingness to adapt to changes.
Silas identified unmet customer needs and proffered creative solutions – He identified a space challenge with the IOCs accommodating our mobile container. In such situations, Silas provided a canopy tent with our modified test bench under to reduce space and carryout the job effectively. He also went for an inspection at Enageed Ajoki to inspect safety valves and used the opportunity to render solutions to the client on control valves that was later awarded to B.O.G at a reasonable price.
He created the end of year get together for clients, vendors and authorities at the BOG FZE facility. Thereby improving relationship with our customers and the regulators at the LFZE. He also created improvements to work processes- He introduced yearly certification training for the valve assembly team. He also designed a Valve assembly flowchart. The flow chart has been adopted by a client representative who came to inspect our facility. He came up with the use of an excel tracker to remind clients of when their pressure and temperature gauges would expire and should be sent back to BOG for re-calibration.
In his bid to deliver on new ideas, Silas took a risk — He undertook a solo-trip to Warri refinery to seek ideas on how BOG can get involved in the after-service contract for safety valves repair after the current contractor. Furthermore, Silas successfully positioned BOG’s innovative methods of testing safety valves and the client’s expectations were met.
Some of the projects completed recently include:
- Painting of 86 Valves (Batches 2 and 3) for Jolgraf (SNEPCo Bonga)
- Testing of 24 isolation valves for TotalEnergies deep water operations
- Epoxy painting of 12″x #600RF Balll valves for TotalEnergies.
