In September 2016, BOG received the Vice President of Sundyne, General Marketing and Sales (Shawn Olson), Sundyne Regional Sales Manager, India (Ganesh Waze) and the Promoter, Mascot Dynamics (Arvind Kamath) in Nigeria. Their visit was at the invitation of Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals for price negotiations on Sundyne’s submissions for six (6) integrally geared centrifugal compressors and four (4) Pressure Products Industries (PPI) diaphragm compressors.
BOG’s Product Specialist, Rotating Equipment, Echezona Moneke participated in the negotiations. The negotiations were in a bid to secure orders for aforementioned items, which will be used for the Dangote Refinery Project.
Centrifugal compressors are radial compressors that work in such a way that energy is transferred from a set of rotating impeller blades to the gas. The gas flow is radial and the energy transfer is caused from a change in the centrifugal forces acting on the gas. A diaphragm compressor is a variant of the classic reciprocating compressor with backup piston rings and rod seal. The compression of gas occurs by means of a flexible membrane, instead of an intake element. The back and forth moving membrane is driven by a rod and a crankshaft mechanism. Put simply, a diaphragm compressor compresses the gas with the help of pistons while a centrifugal compressor compresses the gas with the help of an impeller.
The compressors have various functions but they are essentially used for compressing processed gas in the polypropylene plant. The compressors are also required to maintain or increase gas flow into the pipeline system. This will help in achieving the objectives of the Dangote Refinery Project.
In addition to the negotiations, BOG is pitching to handle the installation, commissioning and subsequent maintenance of these compressors after they are supplied to Dangote Refinery.
This visit by representatives of Sundyne has had a huge impact on the relationship between BOG and Sundyne, as it has given BOG the opportunity to access additional information about product pricing, which in turn has helped shape Sundyne’s offer to Dangote.
More importantly, the visit has boosted relations between Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals and BOG; the management of Dangote Refinery Project now know that Sundyne has a local representative in Nigeria who is well equipped to handle all her operational and maintenance needs.
