The scoping workshop was conducted on Tuesday, January 21 to enlighten stakeholders on the impact BOG’s Proposed Pipe Threading and Valve Assembly Production Facilities will have on its local communities.
Representatives from the Ministry of Environment in Lagos and Abuja, Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Lekki Worldwide Investments- a privately held company set up by the Lagos state government to facilitate the development of the Lekki Free Zone ( LFZ), Ibeju- Lekki Local Government and Lekki Free Zone Development Company, Imobido and Tiye communities were present at this event.
The event was facilitated by Prof. Amusan who is highly accomplished in the field of environmental advisory and consultancy both locally and internationally. Recently, he was an Environmental Adviser on the Ogoni Clean-up Project.
BOG’s Deputy Managing Director of Operations, Ayo Aderibigbe made a detailed presentation on BOG and her value-adding services. He explained that the company is a local company with international standards. As an ISO certified company with an integrated management system that covers quality, health, safety and environmental measures, BOG adheres strictly to quality, health, safety and environmental standards.
Mr. Aderibigbe also emphasized the services BOG’s Proposed Pipe Threading and Valve Assembly Production Facilities will cater to; the pipe threading plant has a capacity to thread up to 50,000 metric tons (MT) of pipes per year. The valve assembly plant will cover machining, assembly, testing, inspection and painting of Gate, Globe and Check valves as well as Ball valves of up to 24”.
At the end of the presentations, the representatives of the communities responded and expressed their concerns. Prof. Amusan in his response assured the communities that negative impacts are minimal and will be thoroughly addressed in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report.
Ayo Aderibigbe reiterated that BOG has been in existence for 18 years and has not had any issues with host communities, including those in the Niger Delta. He assured the host communities at the LFZ that the Pipe Threading and Valve Assembly facilities will have a positive impact on the communities and that the relationship with the communities will be mutually beneficial.
