Femi Jacobs – Assistant Manager, Admin

Can you tell us about yourself and your role at BOG?
I am Femi Jacobs, and I run the administrative unit in Bell Oil and Gas’s Lagos office. I supervise daily office activities, which include managing flights, meetings, and virtually every other element of the office. I also ensure that all Bell Oil and Gas properties are properly insured.
What has been your most memorable project or achievement here?
My most memorable achievement at BOG was taking over the administration department, where all the Executive Officers are based, without a formal handover. This was due to my predecessor left abruptly. Despite the challenge, I quickly adapted, seamlessly integrated into the role, and ensured that all operations continued without disruption.
What do you love most about working at BOG?
Carefully carved out strategic objectives, which the management genuinely lives by. This clear sense of direction was evident from the very first piece of advice I received from the MD when I stepped into my role — guidance that has kept me focused to this day.
What is one thing about your job that you wish more people understood?
When everything runs smoothly, it often looks like we aren’t doing much. But behind the scenes, there’s a lot of coordination and problem-solving happening. Managing vendors and contractors is a big part of this. It’s not always easy, as some vendors may make promises they don’t keep — saying they’re on their way when they’re not — and while we work hard to manage these situations, it can sometimes appear to staff as though we’re not addressing their concerns. It’s a demanding role, but I take pride in keeping things running seamlessly so others can focus on their work.
What’s your strategy for staying motivated during challenging times?
I focus on the bigger picture and remind myself of the value my role brings to the company. During challenging times, I stay motivated by breaking tasks down based on their importance and urgency. This helps me stay organized, tackle high-priority issues first, and avoid feeling overwhelmed.
If you could switch roles with someone in the company for a day, who would it be and why?
If I could switch roles with someone in the company for a day, it would be the Human Resource Manager.
This would allow me to demonstrate how to manage people effectively and motivate them to achieve results without wielding the stick. I believe in leadership through communication, empathy, and clear expectations — creating an environment where people feel valued and inspired to do their best.
What advice would you give to someone new starting at BOG?
Bell Oil and Gas is one of the best companies to work for. To succeed, take time to truly understand the company — its values, services, and role in the oil field services. Always strive for continuous self-improvement, as growth and learning are key. Most importantly, trust the management. They are committed to their words and are dedicated to both the company’s success and your personal development.
What qualities do you value most in a team member?
Being a true team player, being honest, and having a good retentive memory. In administrative and facility management, attention to detail is crucial, and remembering important information helps ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
What’s a fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I’m a jovial person. I enjoy making people feel comfortable and lightening the mood, but sometimes it can put me in situations where people may not take me as seriously as I’d like. It’s a balance I’m always mindful of.
What are you most excited about in the future of your career? Opportunity for growth and leadership. I’m eager to continue expanding my skills in administrative and facility management, taking on more strategic responsibilities, and contributing even more to the success of BOG. I hope to step into roles where I can mentor others, drive impactful projects, and play a part in shaping the company’s future.
