BOG recently participated in an exclusive workshop on Line Pipe Manufacturing and Supply to the Oil and Gas Industry, organized by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).
The workshop served as a strategic platform for local companies with ownership of line pipe mills, pipe coating and pipe threading plants, to engage in discussions surrounding the evolving policy framework for local content development in the sector. In attendance from BOG were the CEO, Dr. Kayode Thomas, and Yemi Gbeja, the General Manager, Business Development and Supply Chain, both of whom reinforced BOG’s commitment to local content advancement and strategic partnerships.
The event was officially opened by Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe (FNSE), Executive Secretary of the NCDMB, who was represented by the Director, Monitoring and Evaluation, Alhaji Abdulmalik Halilu. In his welcome address, he emphasized the need for increased Nigerian participation in line pipe manufacturing and highlighted the Board’s initiatives to support local companies and stakeholders.
Dr. Ama Ikuru, Director of Corporate Services and Capacity Building, further set the agenda for the workshop by highlighting the strategic importance of line pipe manufacturing:
- It is essential for Nigeria’s industrial development and aligns with the NOGICD Act (2010) and the Presidential Executive Order on Local Content.
- It plays a crucial role in achieving the Board’s target of 70% Nigerian Content (NC) under its 10-year strategic roadmap.
- It reduces costs by eliminating middlemen markups.
- It offers significant opportunities in Nigeria and across Africa, supported by the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
- It enhances Nigeria’s reputation in oil and gas manufacturing, aligning with major industry discoveries across Africa.
The workshop featured engaging presentations and discussions from various stakeholders, both in-person and online. Topics covered included the status of ongoing pipe mill projects, investment opportunities, critical success factors for locally made line pipes, NCDMB policies, and the next steps for strengthening local manufacturing.
The workshop reinforced the NCDMB’s dedication to strengthening local participation in the oil and gas sector, ensuring that policies align with industry realities.
BOG remains committed to playing an active role in these crucial dialogues, further solidifying its position as a leading player in Nigeria’s oil and gas supply chain.
