The greatest asset of an organization is its human resource. Hence, BOG is keen on developing a highly skilled and motivated workforce. To fulfil this purpose, the West Africa Sales Manager for one of BOG’s technical partners – National Oilwell Varco (NOV) Fiber Glass Systems (FGS), Paulinus Nsek, was at the Lagos Office of BOG in October 2018, to train BOG Business Development Team on NOV’s products, the industries they serve and their competitive advantages.

These composite materials and products include; GRE (Glassfibre Reinforced Epoxy), GRVE (Glassfibre Reinforced Vinyl Ester), GRP (Glassfibre Reinforced Polyester), MARRS (Multiple-Angle Rapid Railing System) Phenolic Handrails and FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) Gratings. These products are applied in a wide range of applications which include oil & gas transmission (flow lines), downhole tubing/casing applications, water injection, piping for firewater, cooling water, process water, waste water, chemical processing and corrosive/abrasive fluid transmission.

Paulinus took his time to explain the nitty-gritty of each of these products, bringing members of the Business Development Team up to speed on the essential features of each product and their applicability on client facilities.

The properties of these products and their applications to the various industries highlighted above were discussed, with emphasis on those of the oil & gas and chemical industries. The key competitive advantages of these composite materials over the traditional/conventional carbon steel materials lie in their ability to resist corrosion, light weight (~1⁄6 th of their carbon steel), lower construction cost, little maintenance cost and durability.

With this training, members of the Business Development Team are now better equipped with the technical knowledge needed to drive more market penetration for composite pipe systems; they can now better engage clients in providing bespoke solutions to the challenges they face, thereby delivering service excellence to clients.
