The project was to deliver produced water from Amukpe Liquid Treatment Facility (LTF) to Sapele Well 4, using six and a half inches (6½”) Fibre Glass Systems (FGS) Spoolable Pipes of 14.35km discharging into a non-productive well at a take-off discharge of 1450 (PSI). Spoolable pipes are flexible pipes that can be installed with minimum joints. They can be installed up to almost a kilometre without any joints or connections.

The separated produced water is injected into two disposal wells after being treated at the LTF to meet reservoir conditions. Currently, the two disposal wells are not able to receive all the produced water from the LTF as their porosities and injectivity have dropped over time.

In the absence of alternative means of disposing the produced water from the LFT, the consequence of reduced injectivity of the two existing disposal wells is the re-combining of excess produced water with separated crude oil in the export pipelines for handling in the third party Forcados Oil Terminal (FOT). Apart from the fees paid by SEPLAT for handling produced water in third party facility, the ullage in the existing oil pipeline is reduced resulting in additional loss of revenue to the company.

In order to eliminate or reduce fees paid to third party for handling produced water and also increase oil pipeline ullage, an additional disposal well was proposed. The well was identified as a viable additional disposal well for the produced water. To achieve the disposal of water into this well, the service of BOG was employed to construct and install a pipeline to transport produced water from the LTF to the well.

Project plan was to be complete the installation and commissioning in thirteen (13) weeks, but due to site conditions project took about twenty-three (23) weeks.

Being an ISO 9001 Quality Management System Certified Organization, we have always believed in the philosophy of continual improvement. To this end, we have just concluded a thorough After-Project Review Workshop on our Seplat Amukpe-Sapele GRE Produced Water project. The workshop took place in our Port Harcourt office between the 8th and 10th of August, 2016.
